The Least of These Children's Home
In the spring of 2001 while sitting in my office in Denver, Colorado, I read an article about the deplorable conditions of orphanages in Belarus which are nicknamed children's prison. Across the world in Polotsk, Belarus for 18 months during the years 2000 & 2001, Alexei and Ludmilla were clipping newspaper articles about the horrors of the government orphanages. I prayed asking God if there was something I could do. Meanwhile Alexei and Ludmilla were also praying for a way to rescue some of the orphan children. In February 2002 God arranged for me to meet with this sincere Christian couple. Immediately I knew they were the answer to my prayer!
God has answered both of our prayers! In April 2002 we opened the LOT Children's Home which is a small home orphanage. Alexei and Ludmilla are proud parents a second time! Their own two daughters are grown but this couple still have energy and love to share. Children have been plucked from the government orphanages and given a permanent home with this loving couple. By choice the children call them Mom and Dad. They no longer fear hunger, abuse or threat of death from a parent. Dima refuses to talk about his "bad mom" but inundates his new mom with hugs and kisses. Vlad will always carry a scar where his drunken mother placed a hot iron on his hand but his heart is healing rapidly. Nastya was never warm before she arrived at LOT and Ludmilla tells me that God will warm her heart as well.
